2003-02-19 - 3:08 p.m. Dear Diaryland It has been 6 day since my last entry Is it finally over? Are things back to normal yet? SighI hope so This past weekend was fantastic. I got to spend time with bunches of friends, goof off, eat good food, and learn exactly how poorly the SHO does in the snow. SHO+Snow=SHONOGO. Not SHO sortta go, or even if I am careful SHO gojust very slowly. It is SHO no goThis morning I returned to Richmond to fetch my poor stranded car from the clutches of that beautiful wintry whiteness that the Jeep so regularly scoffs at. It was a wonderful drive. The sun was out, the air was crisp, the car was running great, the cop behind me is flashing his lightsAwww fuck me! Sighand I pull over. The officer was a pretty nice fellah. He was very interested in the SHO and very talky altogether. But not enough so to ignore the fact that I was zooming along at a reserved 80mph. I swear the last I looked I was only doing 70-75, but then that is one of the problems with my car. It likes to go fastand does it very easily. The difference between 70 and 80 is almost unnoticeable to the driver. The good news is that the Officer did not write me up for reckless driving (80+ or 20 mph over the speed limit is automatically reckless), and even ignored the illegal tinting on the car. Yeah yeahVA state law allows 15 on the back window, 35 on the rear, and 50 on the drivers and passengers window. I have 35 around. Seeit pays to be very nice, polite, and slow and deliberate in all of your movements. So now I get to cough up $122 to York County cause I was stupid. Did I mention that I was paced by himand not tagged by radar or anything like that. I got caught cause I was not paying attention. Oh wellhere is hoping that my insurance does not freak outThis is my first ticket in 10 years after all. I find myself completely amazed by the gossip mill that is my job. I had mentioned that I would be leaving for SF near the end of next monthand now EVERY employee in the library knows that I am leaving. But that is not the best part. The powers that be are just about pushing me out now. I even found out that the Director is already asking for my resignation letter. I guess that in Norfolk land 6 weeks notice is what is expected and not the 2 or even 4 that I had planned on giving. Oh wellI guess if they keep pushing me, I will end up leaving earlier than I had initially planned. Which is of course fine with me. Cause right about now I find it next to impossible to get anything productive done. Yeah I still teach my classesand that is coolbut extra projects, well I have finished them all upand I dont plan to start anymore. Ahhhwork is so much easier when you see the end in sight. Now all I have to do is get all my stupid stuff sorted out. Transferring bills to the roomies, getting the dog ready, getting the cars ready for storage, all things that will take me a week at most. I guess letting work push up my schedule is not a bad idea after all. Well that is really all I have to say right nowperhaps you will get more outta me laterOh and in case yall have forgottenITS COMIC DAY!!! Today I learned that in order to get the alignment correct on the SHO (the rear end is already within tolerances) I have to replace the inner and outer tie rod endsand then break the welds on the strut tower adjusting plateheheheI cant wait! I love working on carsespecially when everything will cost less than $100. So how bout yall? What have you learned today? |
